Amateur Radio
About
I got licensed in the fall of 2023, soon after I started my first year of uni through Northeastern Wireless (W1KBN). I was issued the callsign KC1TNB, but I decided to apply for a vanity in the following spring. Since April 2024, my callsign has been N1GNU.
So far, I've been using my license for radio experimentation, various HF activities and volunteering. I've helped out at the BAA Half-Marathons, the Boston Marathons and the Charlie Card Challenge (outrun the Green Line).
Equipment
I use a Retevis RT3S loaded with OpenGD77 firmware and a Signal Stick for all my VHF/UHF needs. Currently, I don't have my own HF rig, but considering getting something portable in the future.
Parks on the Air
I've been trying to be active with POTA stuff. Mainly, I hunt stations out
of Boston, but I've done a couple activations in the past year around
eastern Massachussets. This is me activating
Walden Pond
in March 2025.
Boston Marathon
This is my second year volunteering for the Boston Marathon as a ham
operator. This year, I was on an express bus taking dropped out runners from
the course to the finish line.
